LCA ISO 14040

It is possible to consider and interpret the environmental impacts of any goods (product or service), throughout its entire life cycle, using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool. The evaluation includes the entire life cycle of process or activity, including:

  • the extraction and processing of raw materials,
  • fabrication
  • transport
  • distribution
  • use, reuse and recycle
  • final disposal

The structure of LCA is divided into four main steps:

  • Definition of the objectives and scope of the study
  • Inventory analysis (LCI).
  • Impact assessment (LCIA).
  • Interpretation.

Benefits

LCA is an environmental assessment methodology, applicable in any industrial or services sector that provides a global and detailed vision of the system under observation, in order to:

  • highlight and locate opportunities to reduce environmental impacts related to the life of products.
  • deepen the environmental assessment of the product system in the context of an environment analysis for the Environmental Management System.
  • identify strategic lines for the development of new products or services.
  • support internal decisions regarding interventions on processes, products, and activities.
  • support corporate marketing and communication on environmental issues.
  • deepen the environmental assessment of the product system in the context of an environment analysis for the Environmental Management System.
  • identify strategic lines for the development of new products or services.
  • evaluate and compare the effects of different environmental and resource management policies

LCA is also the initiating step for a possible Environmental Product Declaration (EPD); AJA Europe Srl verifies the LCA documentations against UNI EN ISO 14040 (Environmental Management, Life Cycle Assessment, Principles and Framework) and 14044 (Life Cycle Assessments, Requirements and Guidelines) and, in case of positive outcome, issues a certificate.
